Hillism ("the App") is a mapping application that helps users discover hill climbs for cycling and running. Your privacy is important to us. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

1. Data We Collect

Location Data

When you grant permission, the App accesses your device's location to show hills near you. Your location is sent to our server solely to return nearby hill data. We do not store, log, or track your location on our servers. Location data stays on your device and is transmitted only as transient API query parameters.

Usage Data

We do not use analytics SDKs, crash reporters, or any third-party tracking services. We do not collect device identifiers, IP addresses for profiling, or behavioural data.

User Accounts

The App does not require account creation. There are no usernames, passwords, or email addresses collected.

2. Data Stored on Your Device

The App stores the following locally on your device using standard platform storage (AsyncStorage):

• Your filter and sort preferences
• The timestamp of the last changelog entry you viewed

This data never leaves your device and can be cleared by deleting the App.

3. Third-Party Services

The App communicates with:

• Hillism API — our own server, to fetch hill data for the area you are viewing. No personal data is collected or stored by this server.
• OpenFreeMap — to render map tiles. Tile requests go directly to OpenFreeMap's servers, which may log IP addresses per their own privacy practices. See openfreemap.org.

We do not use advertising networks, social media SDKs, or analytics platforms.

4. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share any user data with third parties.

5. Data Retention

Since we do not collect personal data on our servers, there is nothing to retain or delete. Local preferences are removed when you uninstall the App.

6. Children's Privacy

The App does not knowingly collect information from children under 13. The App has no user accounts and no advertising.

7. Your Rights

Since we do not collect personal data, there is no personal data to access, correct, or delete. If you have any concerns, please contact us.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance.
